ROUGH TRANSCRIPT

Oh, how badly do you want to create?
Do you want to write?
Do you want to sing?
Do you want to sew?
Do you want to sculpt?
Do you want to carve?
If you have the desire to create, it's probably very strong.
We've had it all our lives, we crazy creative types.
And a lot of us just don't do it.
The reason we don't do it is an outright lie,
and I need you to understand.
There is no gate to making art.
There are no walls.
There really is no boundary.
Yes, you need money for some materials, there are things like
that, but you can make art without the fancy materials.
In fact, you can create your own materials and make art that way.
You can write.
You can make songs, you can make stories.
You can do that right now.
You don't need permission.
You can squish clay, you can carve wood.
You can do whatever the heck you want.
And here's the really cool part.
Not only is there no barrier to entry into art,
anyone can do it, but you don't even have to be good at it.
You're not in competition.
Like, you can just make it for you.
It doesn't have to be good compared to your favorite whatever.
Why?
They're a professional.
Why would you compare it to that?
Did you enjoy it?
Then you won.
There is no barrier to art, and
we really do feel like there is one.
We have to be good enough, or rich enough, or have enough
time, whatever. Wrong.
You get to make art whenever the heck you want to make art.
You're human.
Humans make art.
That's why little babies, the moment they have access to finger
paint or clay or crayons,
Guess what?
They start making art.
Creative, you have the right.
You have it.
It cannot be taken away from you.
So...
Why not try?
Make one thing. Just one thing. It can be tiny
and it can be terrible.
You can write the worst sentence anyone has ever written.
You can whittle away at that stick until it...
Oh, gosh, you're not even sure what it was supposed to be anymore.
It's fine.
It still counts.
You are human. Humans make art. You have the right.
It is not about being "good enough."
It is just about being willing.
Make one new thing. Let it be tiny and terrible. Who cares?
Did you enjoy it/ Then do it again tomorrow. That
happens to be how you build a creative habit.
You can do this.
You have the right to do this.
Sit down with me, and together, let's make
something new.
