## ROUGH TRANSCRIPT

Welcome back creatives. Ruthanne Reid here, author and stroke survivor to help you get out of block and into a daily habit of creation. And yes, I am wearing a bathrobe. If you've been on the channel before, you know the last few days have been among my worst in terms of chronic illness flare-up. So that was not fun. But what I brought out of it is something I want to share with you from artist to artist. You must have patience with yourself. Life is just not going to go the way you plan. It isn't. Stuff outside your control happens. So whatever preparation you make no longer counts. You see, if your artistic goals are set up in such a way that when there is a disruption, which happens, life has those, you lose that goal and you go back to ground zero. That's That's not very good. In fact, that's incredibly discouraging and you're not likely to follow through because every time you go back to zero, oh my gosh, what even was the point of all that effort? But if you have patience with yourself, then when something happens, your car breaks down, you lose your job, you have an arthritis flare-up that leaves you in bed for 3 days, because your artistic goals have some flexibility, you can survive it, so can your art, and you come out the other end having not lost your streak or your passion or your inertia. You can keep going. You didn't actually lose everything. You didn't drop all the reins. You're okay. It's incredibly powerful to be okay, creative. I'm working on being okay. I'm I'm I'm I'm getting better. I will be better in a few days. I should be able to, you know, go shopping again and all that fun stuff. But right now, I'm having patience with myself and that means if as long as I do more than one word a day, I'm succeeding and I'm dead serious about that. Make one new thing. Let that new thing be the wrong thing and you actually got it. Like these are simple rules. They're not easy to do because you have to fight perfectionism, but they are simple. Creative your art deserves all the effort and mental work and everything you have to put into it in order to understand why you're doing what you're doing and how to do it consistently. It is worth it because you are worth it. Sit down with me and together creakily \[laughter\] let's make something new.
