Living things need rest. (daily video)
Creative, I know you feel behind. Late. Even so, you MUST make time to rest, or you’ll end up resting involuntarily when you crash.

ROUGH TRANSCRIPT
It is an unusually quiet morning creative, and it leads
me to a lot of interesting thoughts regarding the arts and what we
make and what we need to do with our time.
Hi, my name is Ruthanne Reid.
I'm a stroke survivor and fantasy author, and I'm here to help you get out of
block and into a daily habit of creation.
I don't get a lot of quiet mornings.
Chronic illness means I don't sleep very well.
So, basically, if I get even a few extra minutes
in the morning, I'm gonna take them, because chances are I
didn't really sleep the night before.
So this circumstance where I actually got up, and there's
time, and everybody else is asleep, and it's just kind of peaceful
is very unusual for me.
In ordinary circumstances, I would be going, okay,
this is my chance to create. I need to sit down and write.
Nobody's talking to me, nothing's going on, nobody needs anything.
I am writing.
Normally, I would do that.
Today, my body and brain are telling me that
I need to take it easy.
They are telling me, creative, that I forgot one of the principles
I teach you, and then didn't do over
this last month.
Rest.
Now, I'm not saying you're not going to make anything today.
I still hold to the Two Rule principle.
Make one new thing.
Let it be tiny and terrible.
So I will write a sentence.
That is enough to continue to inform my brain, physiologically,
that creating things is my daily normal and it needs to streamline it.
Meanwhile, I'm actually just going to sit and
look out the window, and try to
settle inside of my head and my heart.
to try to find that space where even if the sloshing bathwater
of the inside of myself has not fully calmed, at
least it's a little bit calmer.
Creative, you need rest.
I know it doesn't feel like you have time, but, you know, it's
kind of like those signs you see on machines:
"Schedule maintenance, or your machine will schedule it for you." Your body will do that, too.
Understanding that you are part of nature, and rest is part of
your natural cycle, is not a weakness or a fault.
It's because you are literally a member of this planet.
Nothing living exists without periods of rest.
So I am going to breathe,
take a little bit of time, and try to calm myself.
I suggest you try to find a little bit of time to do the same.
If we do not do maintenance, our bodies
and brains are going to do it for us, and we won't like the way that goes down.
You can do this, creative.
You are not alone.
Sit down with me, and together, however tired you
may be,
let's make something new.
