Intentionality is the key. (daily video)
Creative, do you know what practice is? It's intentionality, repeating the thing (for good or ill) until we can do it well. Guess what? That's how we make art.

ROUGH TRANSCRIPT
When you make things and it's not coming out right, that's
not the final judgment.
That's not the door closing in your face.
That is, "Okay,
Obviously, I did not approach this correctly.
Let's figure out why."
Welcome back, Creatives.
My name is Ruthanne Reid.
I am a stroke survivor and fantasy author, and I'm here to help you get out of block
and into a daily habit of creation.
Creative, do you know what practice is?
It's intentionality.
It is repeating the thing, trying to do the thing over
and over and over again, paying attention to what you're doing, so that
when you know you screw up, you can start to figure out why you
screwed up and improve.
That's how you learn to do art.
You have to try even when what you're producing is garbage.
That is normal.
It's the same thing as a baby learning to walk.
It's the same thing as recovering the ability to walk after breaking
your leg and doing physical therapy.
You start out bad.
But if you are not willing to persist starting out
bad, well, you're not going to improve, for one, but
it also won't give you the opportunity to be intentional about what you create.
Being intentional means, yes, you have to pay attention.
Being intentional means you can't just randomly do it,
or you might as well be doom scrolling if you're turning your brain off.
But if you actually want to do art, then
even that one small thing that you do every day, letting that
thing be tiny, terrible, and incomplete.
Well, you're going to have to pay attention to it.
Creative, you can do this.
You can actually build an excellent creation habit.
You can actually turn yourself into the kind of artist you want to be.
It is possible.
It just means you're going to have to actually think about it as you practice.
You've got this.
You are not alone.
You have more talent than you think, and you can
make that story, song, whatever it is in your head, a reality.
Sit down with me,
and together, let's make something new.
